  • Pilates is a system of exercises developed by Joe Pilates in the early 20th century. Originally called Contrology, Pilates is designed to strengthen and tone the entire body. It relies on coordination and control of mind, body and spirit. Pilates can be done on a mat or utilizing the apparatus Joe designed and built, the most popular being the universal reformer.

  • Classical Pilates refers to the original exercise method designed by Joe Pilates using equipment built according to his specifications. Contemporary or Pilates inspired workouts can be a hybrid of Pilates and other methods. Exercises and equipment may be modified or interpreted slightly or significantly.

  • Joe Pilates developed his method to be universal. His dream was for all people to do Pilates.  He died before this dream was realized and would probably be very happy with the popularity Pilates has gained since his death in 1967.  Joe taught dancers, athletes and average people alike.

  • Joe Pilates required his students to do Pilates three times a week. For some people that means lessons or classes three times a week.  For others it means 1 lesson and a home Pilates practice a few times a week.  Your Pilates practice is personal, and a perfect program is different for different students.

  • Comfortable clothing that you can move in is recommended.  Avoiding very loose fitting clothes is best. Additionally, clothing without zippers and buttons is advised - hardware can be uncomfortable to lie on and may damage the equipment. Pilates is done bare foot or in socks. Women might be comfortable in leggings or sweat pants and a sports bra and tee shirt; men usually wear shorts or sweatpants and a light tee shirt.

  • There is a 24-hour cancellation policy for all Pilates lessons. If Client does not cancel a minimum of 24 hours prior to a lesson, Client will be charged the full fee.

Payment for services is to be made prior to or on the day of service. Packages that remain unused beyond their expiration date will not be refunded.
